Why we built this

Every material calculator online seems to fail in one of two ways. Some oversimplify the maths until the answer is barely trustworthy — one input, one number, no idea what assumptions went into it. Others bury a decent tool under so many ads and pop-ups that finding the actual result feels like work. Neither helps the person standing in a builders’ merchant, phone in hand, trying to decide how many bags to load onto the trolley.

We wanted the opposite: a tool that gives you the number fast, shows its working, and then answers the questions that come after the volume. How much will it weigh? Will it fit in the truck? How many bags is that — and is the 80 lb bag actually cheaper than the 60? Should you be ordering ready-mix instead of bagging it by hand? Those are the decisions that cost real money on a real job, and almost no calculator online bothers with them.

So we built ours to be fast, accurate, and honest about its assumptions — and then we gave it away for free.

Who we are

How we build our calculators

Accuracy isn’t a marketing word for us — it’s the whole product. If the number is wrong, the tool is worthless. So every calculator on this site follows the same principles:

• The geometry is exact, the assumptions are statedEvery tool lists exactly what it assumes — bag yields, material densities, standard depths — so you can adjust when your product or your site differs from the defaults.
• Checked against industry referencesOur formulas and figures are cross-checked against standard construction references, and updated as material densities, bag sizes and industry defaults change.
• Cost, weight and quantity togetherVolume alone rarely answers the real question. You also need to know what it weighs, how you’ll move it, and what it will cost.
• Waste and rounding built inEvery tool adds a waste allowance and rounds to the increment suppliers actually sell — quarter yards, whole bags, full pallets.
• Nothing leaves your browserEvery calculation runs on your own device. Nothing you type is sent to a server or stored anywhere.
• Built for phonesThe tools are designed mobile-first, because that’s where they get used — on the job site and in the store aisle, not at a desk.

A word on accuracy

Our calculators are built to be as accurate as the inputs allow, but every estimate is a planning figure, not a guarantee. Material densities shift with moisture, bag yields differ slightly between manufacturers, and no site is ever perfectly level or perfectly square. We build in a waste allowance for exactly that reason — but you should always confirm final quantities with your supplier before ordering, and consult a qualified professional or engineer for anything structural or load-bearing.

We’d rather tell you that plainly than pretend a calculator can replace judgement on site.
