How to size a driveway culvert pipe
- Measure the crossing the width of the driveway or road at the ditch, end to end.
- Estimate the drainage area the acreage of land that drains water into that ditch above your crossing.
- Pick a pipe diameter matching that drainage area, sizing up if the ditch grade is steep or the ditch already floods.
- Add waste typically 5% to cover cut ends and connector overlap.
